There are two MAJOR baby trends going on right now… waiting until birth to find out the sex of the baby and coming up with a super creative gender reveal if you don’t wait. Both I believe have the same intention, to make the announcement of the sex of your baby special for you and your loved ones. One group of people just has a LOT more patience than the other ;).
More and more people are waiting until birth to find out if their little one growing inside is a he or a she. I have heard countless reasons why, including it is one of life’s only true and great surprises and it can make the event more exciting on birth day for you and your loved ones waiting in anticipation. Many parents, including those initially reluctant say they would choose waiting again with their other children because it was such an amazing thrill. I commend their patience and love that they choose to have this special moment for their family!
I on the other hand simply don’t have it in me to wait. I don’t really like surprises, especially ones I have to anticipate. With our first daughter I wanted to feel prepared; I am an extreme planner! However, I realized in hindsight that knowing our baby was a girl didn’t actually change a whole lot of planning for us, most of the things we bought/were given were fairly neutral because we knew we would have more kids and wanted it to last through them all. However, it did make a huge difference in my bonding with her.
I have had fairly easy pregnancies, so I try not to complain, but I’m also not one of those people who loves being pregnant. Once we knew the gender I no longer felt (as much) like my body was being invaded by an alien, but that I had a daughter. I found with both my pregnancies thus far that knowing enabled me to bond with each of them in a way that I couldn’t when they were an “it”. I’m not saying this isn’t possible without knowing the gender, it just made it easier for me.
We get to find out this week the surprise that we have anticipated for the last 18 weeks; is baby #3 a HE or SHE. I have felt like a kid just before Christmas! I am ready to know my child just a little bit better and begin the daunting task of naming them (stay tuned for that blog post soon, I may need your help)!
Though we love a good party we won’t be having a big gender reveal, we do however plan to share the news with our girls in a way that will make it a little more special for them. I can’t wait to see how they react to the news, either way. Libby is so determined it’s a girl, she doesn’t understand why we have to go to an appointment to find out. We’ll see!?!?
Can’t wait to share the news with you all in the next week!
